Alexis Mac Allister and Diego Maradona
Two Argentine midfielders who came through the same two clubs a generation apart. Both Maradona's and Mac Allister's records carry Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors — a rare shared route for players separated by 38 years: Maradona born in 1960, Mac Allister in 1998. After that the paths split: Maradona to Barcelona, Napoli and Sevilla, Mac Allister to Brighton and Liverpool.
How they met
They never met — what links them is an address, not a moment. The same road through Argentine football: Argentinos Juniors first, then Boca. Maradona walked it in the seventies and eighties, Mac Allister a generation later, arriving from a family where his father Carlos Mac Allister also played and his brothers Francis and Kevin still do.
The core tension
A shared route makes comparison unavoidable, and it never favours the living. In Argentine football Maradona is the yardstick everyone is measured against; Mac Allister reached the national team through the same club corridor and became a world champion in 2022 — winning the thing the comparison is always about. Both play the same position: midfield.
